Remove the plates. You can retain them or transfer them to a new vehicle.

Download, print, and complete a Sold Vehicle Notice and take it to your local DMV office.
Don't cancel your insurance until you've taken care of your plates and registration for this state. Once those steps are done, contact your insurer to remove the vehicle from your policy.
