Turn in the plates at your local DMV office.

If you do not turn in your plates, you should complete a Seller's Notification of Sale and submit it to the Kansas Department of Revenue with a $10 filing fee.
Don't cancel your insurance until you've taken care of your plates and registration for this state. Once those steps are done, contact your insurer to remove the vehicle from your policy.
You may be eligible for a refund of unused registration fees and property taxes if you take your license plate and registration receipt to your local county treasurer's office.
