What do I need to do with my plates?
Standard plates must remain on the vehicle at the time of sale. Specialty or personalized license plates must be removed.
Is there anything else I need to do?
Complete a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability form online within 5 days of the date of sale to let the DMV know about the change of ownership.
Don't cancel your insurance until you've canceled your registration with the state. Once that's done, contact your insurer to remove the vehicle from your policy.
